Bihar Yoga Bharati (BYB), an Institute for Advanced Studies in Yogic Sciences, is the first of its kind in the world wholly devoted to the subject of yoga. A great place to learn life skills and yoga culture, it has been an object of fascination with huge fan following from international tourists looking for peace and good health. It is located within the Ganga Darshan Complex in Munger on a powerful energy center about 172 km from Patna. It is on top of the hill overlooking the river Ganga.
Sri Swami Sivananda Saraswati first had the vision of a yoga institute when he established the Yoga Vedanta Forest Academy in Rishikesh in 1950. This inspiration was carried forward by Sri Swami Satyananda Saraswati, who established Bihar School of Yoga in Munger in 1963, followed by the Ganga Darshan complex. Swami Niranjanananda Saraswati, with the blessings of his predecessors, founded Bihar Yoga Bharati in 1994, to preserve and regenerate the total scope of yogic science by combining academic and scientific methodology with a spiritual vision.
Bihar Yoga Bharti has been established along the lines of Nalanda and Vikramshila, two great spiritual centers of learning. It continues the work started by these ancient centers, as a pathfinder for the current and future spiritual awakening of people, in the spheres of Yoga, Vedanta and other allied subjects. This ashram-based institute is the first of its kind in the world to impart a comprehensive yogic education.
The primary Bihar School of Yoga campus is called Ganga Darshan. It includes residential facilities for guests and students.
Satyananda yoga was taught in many organizations in the world by the mid-1970s, including eight ashrams in Australia, of which 3 were run by sannyasins.
The Prime Minister of India conferred the National Yoga Award 2019 on the Bihar School of Yoga for outstanding contributions to the promotion and development of yoga.
This yoga centre is world famous. You will find a number of foreigners practicing Indian yoga here. It’s location by the side of river Ganga gives it a special character.
