श्रावणी मेला / कांवड़ यात्रा, सुलतानगंज-देवघर-दुमका (Shrawani Mela / Kanwar Yatra) – Sultanganj, Deoghar & Dumka

Each year, during the holy month of Shrawan during Monsoon, devotees in many states undertake Kanwar Yatra to collect water from the Ganga and other rivers and offer it at the temples of Lord Shiva in major pilgrim centers.

The Devasangha Math, founded by Narendra Nath Brahmacharya is an ashram. It is situated 3 km away from the Baidyanath temple.

The Math has a Navadurga temple which has an idol of Goddess Durga. The temple was built in the year 1955, and a large number of devotees visit the temple throughout the year.

रिखियापीठ आश्रम, देवघर (Rikhiapeeth Ashram) – Deoghar

Rikhiapeeth is situated in a remote village, twelve kilometers from the renowned temple town of Deoghar, Jharkhand. सत्संग आश्रम, देवघर (Sri Sri Thakur Anukul Chandra Satsang Ashram) – Deoghar

Satsang Ashram is a holy place for devotees of Thakur Anukulchandra, in the south-west of Deoghar, established by Anukul Chandra. Thakur Anukulchandra was born on 14 September 1888. In a small village called Himaitpur in the Pabna district of the eastern zone of Bengal (the then undivided India) which is now in Bangladesh, lord came to save this world. He was born to Sri. Shibchandra Chakravarty (Shandilya Gotra, Kanyakubja Brahmin) and Manmohini Devi.

Anukulchandra was extremely mother centric, from his early life. His mother remained his guru throughout his life. He was lover of the mankind. Anukulchandra set up an Ashram at Pabna (later it was named Satsang). At Deoghar in India 1946 for fostering spiritual development a new Ashram had been set up by him. Eventually Satsang ashram at Deoghar became a major place of attraction in Deoghar fo all kind of people in the society.

हरीला जोड़ी, देवघर (Harila Jori) – Deoghar

It is known as ‘Haritika van’ where from worshiping matters were collected. There is one temple of Lord Shiva which cannot be over looked from historical point of view. It is said that genesis of this place is related with Ravan.

Harila Jori is located on the north side of holy and very ancient temple of the great Lord Shiva. This is one of the twelve famous Jyotirlingas in India and most revered by the devotees. The Shravani mela also takes place here during the month if July and August. You can have all milk products out here such as Peda, Rabri, Dahi and dairy sweets of various types. This area is full of Haritaki or Myrobalan trees.

तपोवन पहाड़ एवं गुफाएँ, देवघर (Tapovan Hills & Caves) – Deoghar

Tapovan Hills are located 10km from the Deoghar Town. It is mainly famous for Tapo Nath Mahadev, the temple of Lord Shiva. It is named Tapovan because in the olden days it was a meditation spot (Tapobhumi) for the Nagas.

The site houses a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is popularly known as Taponath Mahadeva. Tourists can witness various caves on this hill, which served as a site for penance of Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari and Sage Valmiki. One of the prime attractions of the site is the cave, which has a Shivalingam enshrined in it.

Shivaganga, earlier known as Varvoghar kund, was founded by Ravana, when he made a blow with his fist on the earth. Baidyanath Temple, Deoghar

The temple is situated in a spacious courtyard bound by stone walls. In the temple complex are twenty-two other temples. The Baijnath or Vaidyanath temple faces east. देवघर – बैद्यनाथ मंदिर (Deoghar – The Baidyanath Temple)

The temple of Baidyanath faces the east and is a plain tone structure with a pyramidal tower, which rises from a square base to a height of 72 feet from the ground. To the east of the northern verandah of the temple there is a. large vat into which flows the water and milk offered as ablution.

The lingam is of a cylindrical forming about 5 inches in diameter and projects about 4 inches from the centre of a large slab of basalt. It is not possible to ascertain how much of the lingam is buried. The top is broken and has uneven surface and the fracture is attributed lo the Story already mentioned.
