हरीला जोड़ी, देवघर (Harila Jori) – Deoghar

It is known as ‘Haritika van’ where from worshiping matters were collected. There is one temple of Lord Shiva which cannot be over looked from historical point of view. It is said that genesis of this place is related with Ravan.

Harila Jori is located on the north side of holy and very ancient temple of the great Lord Shiva. This is one of the twelve famous Jyotirlingas in India and most revered by the devotees. The Shravani mela also takes place here during the month if July and August. You can have all milk products out here such as Peda, Rabri, Dahi and dairy sweets of various types. This area is full of Haritaki or Myrobalan trees.

मसानजोर डैम, दुमका (Massanjore Dam) – Dumka

Massanjore Dam, popularly known as the Canada Dam, is constructed across the Mayurakshi river and is surrounded by forests and hills. It was constructed in 1955. The dam is 34.4 m high and 609.6 m long. Around 50,000 acres of agrarian land is irrigated with the help of water coming from this dam. The dam was constructed with the motive to generate hydroelectric power.

The reservoir has an area of 67.4 square kilometres when full and has a storage capacity of 620,000,000 cubic metres.

Tapovan Hills are located 10km from the Deoghar Town. It is mainly famous for Tapo Nath Mahadev, the temple of Lord Shiva. It is named Tapovan because in the olden days it was a meditation spot (Tapobhumi) for the Nagas.

The site houses a beautiful temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and is popularly known as Taponath Mahadeva. Tourists can witness various caves on this hill, which served as a site for penance of Sri Sri Balananda Brahmachari and Sage Valmiki. Residents here seemed unaware that an illustrious son of India — Ashok Kumar to some, Dadamoni to many — was born in Bhagalpur more than a hundred years ago.

Ashok Kumar was born at Rajbati, the house of his maternal grandfather, on October 13, 1911. He even spent his childhood in the city, later marrying Shobha Devi, daughter of Sudhirendra Nath of Kharmanchak.

All that remains of Rajbati now are broken walls and the glistening white sand of the Ganga diara. Even the house of his in-laws has disappeared. So has, it seems, his memory among residents.

There were no functions to mark his birth anniversary on Monday. “It’s a generation gap. The new generation is familiar with contemporary artistes. अजगैबीनाथ मंदिर, सुलतानगंज (Ajgaivinath Temple) – Sultanganj

The origin of Ajgaivinath temple at Jahangira or Sultanganj is not exactly known. Some claim it to be a Swayambhu, on the rock, discovered and then given an abode. That this is a very ancient place of worship there can be no doubt. The temple is solidly built on the rock and has got a series of marvelous rock sculpture and some inscriptions.
